Why Being a Vegetarian may not Benefit the Environment

Many people think that being vegetarian is beneficial to our environment when actually it can do more harm than good. When you buy your meat from a local farm it can benefit the soil, the atmosphere, and your health. Local farms treat their animals with respect and the manure from the cows benefits the soil for live to grow. When you are on a plant based diet the soil can be stripped of its nutrients from the constant growth of plants. The agricultural process of tilling fields can release greenhouse gasses into the environment and speeds up erosion. I do NOT recommend buying your meat from industrial farms because of their mistreatment of animals and the amount of methane emitted from these farms. I DO recommend buying your meat from local farms that properly care for their animals and care for the environment whilst making a living. Meat also gives you the protein you need whereas plants lack lots of protein. So next time you are perusing around the grocery store check where your meat is from!
