The House Democrats just made the most detailed climate plan in US history. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez started the Green New Deal which is a congressional resolution that lays out a grand plan for tackling climate change. The proposal calls on the federal government to wean the United States from fossil fuels and curb planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions across the economy. It also aims to guarantee new high-paying jobs in clean energy industries. The resolution is non-binding, so even if Congress approves it, nothing in the proposal would become law. The goal of the Green New Deal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also trying to fix societal problems like economic inequality and racial injustice. This new deal did not initially pass but in the 2020 election Joe Biden plans to implement the Green New Deal if he is elected. The Trump Administration has undermined several environmental regulations. Including dismantling the Clean Power Act, withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, and he blocked rule to phase out inefficient lightbulbs. Trump has no intention of bringing any of these things back if he is re-elected. Make sure you research your candidate before you vote!
