When driving down a suburban street there are large green patches everywhere. But why do we have lawns? Lawns used to symbolize wealth but had no benefit. In the summer about 238 gallons of water are used watering lawn per household. About 66% of all water use in each household comes from watering the lawn. Lawns take up the space that could be used for agricultural purposes. Just think if everyone used their lawn for garden space how much greener the Earth could be. Food would be fresher and close to home therefore lowering the food miles. Think if everyone was growing their own food supermarkets would be smaller and lowering the carbon footprint on the food we eat. So next time you think about re-sodding your lawn just turn it into a garden!
