Fast Fashion and Its Effects on the Environment

Fast fashion is not an industry we hear much about because of its poor treatment of workers. Fast fashion is a term that describes cheap designs moving quickly from catwalk to stores in order to capture and create new trends. As a result, we constantly see new trends from fast fashion brands such as Zara, H&M, or Forever 21 that are cheap and that encourage us to always buy more. You may wonder when shopping why is this brand so much cheaper than this brand? This is because these brands pay their employees little to none. Fast fashion leaves a pollution footprint, with each step of the clothing life cycle generating potential environmental and occupational hazards. When textile clothing ends up in landfills the chemicals on the clothes, such as the dye, can cause environmental damage by leaching the chemicals into the ground.
